Peltz came up with a product that is meant to make the job of selecting a color when painting a home’s interior easier. It’s called SureSwatch, and Peltz is talking about this invention again these days because she recently got word that select Walmarts will be selling the product.
The idea for SureSwatch was hatched when Peltz was involved with a household chore and came upon a problem.
“I always had difficulty picking my paint color, and I’ve watched and talked to other people going through the same process and having the same problem visualizing,” said Peltz, who grew up in Beachwood.
“You get a paint chip, which isn’t really paint, it’s ink. So you hold this little chip up in your room and you go, ‘Hmm, I don’t know if that color is quite right.’ You end up putting a color (of paint) on that isn’t right. For me, it was a visualization issue,” she said.
How does SureSwatch work to help painters?
“SureSwatch is a paintable clear film that helps you see paint colors on your wall without actually painting your wall,” Peltz said. “So you paint the clear side of it. It’s got a low-tack adhesive on it. You stick it on a wall, you look at your painted color, then you’re able to cleanly peel it off so you don’t get those unsightly paint spots from doing your test spots on your wall.”
Although she doesn’t fully like the comparison, Peltz said SureSwatch is sort of like a Post-it Note upon which you can paint and test colors — only in a much larger size than a Post-it Note.
Peltz is founder and president of her firm, known as True Hue. On Oct. 1, Peltz took part in Walmart’s once-per-year Open Call, in which those with products make a pitch in hopes that Walmart will sell their wares.
Walmart spokesman Charles Crowson, speaking from the company’s headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., said of Open Call, “We heard from 850 suppliers, and from those, about 150 get some form of yes to go on to the next step. Others get

Peltz was one who received a yes. She is now negotiating the sales of SureSwatch in Walmart stores.
Crowson said that products such as SureSwatch aren’t sold in all Walmart stores, but select stores where it is believed they will sell best.
The competition during Open Call is heavy, as Crowson said about 4,500 suppliers submitted applications, with just the 850 chosen to make a presentation.
“The important thing about Open Call,” Crowson said, “is that (Walmart is) investing in American jobs and American-made products.”
SureSwatch has been available at stores such as Ace Hardware and Home Depot, but will probably have its distribution expanded into Walmart stores early next year.
Peltz, who along with her husband of 31 years, Daniel, raised three now-grown children, does not have a science background, so she sought out chemists to help design and perfect her ideas.
She is a graduate of The Ohio State University and holds a master’s degree in business administration from John Carroll University.
Peltz was asked what it’s like walking into a store and seeing a product she invented.
“Sometimes, it’s very surreal. You think, different people invent all these things and then you think, ‘Oh, I’m one of those people.”’
Looking back to when her career as an inventor started, Pelz said: “I was unemployed and at a crossroads. I was wondering if I should go back into the corporate world or pursue a dream. I decided to pursue a dream. I still get up and do what I want to do every day.”
