A few days ago, the USPTO announced that they are considering extending the term on provisional patent applications.

Currently provisional applications give inventors a low cost way to have one year of patent pending status to explore the market before applying for a much more expensive utility patent. The USPTO is considering extending the term to two years! To find out more information, click here.
